Building Healthy and Strong Communities

Community dance includes many kinds of dance, dances and dancing

Community Dance is for everybody. It includes many kinds of dance, dancers and dancing, and is led by highly skilled, professional dance practitioners. Since 2006, Made in BC has organized over 250 community dance activities in underserved regions, reaching over 50,000 people. Originally conceived as a way to build audience appreciation for touring shows, Made in BC’s dance outreach activities have had such a huge impact on people in the communities that we partner with we’ve focused on expanding this aspect of our programming. We believe that by building healthy and strong communities, we lay the groundwork for an understanding and life-long appreciation of the arts.

Made in BC works with individuals in communities around the province (Community Engagement Facilitators – CEF’s ) in combination with specially trained Vancouver-based dance artists to help community members engage with dance activity. This stellar team from around the province creates tailor-made dance outreach activities, such as dance classes, workshops, flash mobs, discussions with visiting artists, residencies, talk-backs, visual art exhibits and other initiatives that fit the unique communities where they live. Activities often coincide with other events such as BC’s Arts and Culture Week, Canada’s National Dance Week and UNESCO’s International Dance Day.

Everybody Dance

Everybody Dance BC is an initiative to encourage participation in community dance projects.

Residencies pair regional communities with professional dance artists for intensive periods of learning and artistic collaboration.

Community Engagement Facilitators

Community Engagement Facilitators  have their ears to the ground in each of the MiBC communiites, ensuring the development of locally relevant community dance projects programming across the province.
