Smithers is located on the Yellowhead Trans Canada or “Highway 16”, 370 km west of Prince George, and 350 km from Prince Rupert. Smithers is 1150 km north of Vancouver.
Population
Population 6,000. With 87% of Smithers residents being Canadian-born, and 88% with an English-only mother tongue, the town has few visible minorities. Though not included as visible minorities, 10% identified themselves as Aboriginal in the 2001 census, a higher proportion than the 4% provincial average.
