Working With and For BC PresentersMade in BC develops, connects and provides resources for a network of dance presenters from around the province. Network presenters share the goal of showcasing and raising awareness of BC contemporary dance and Made In BC works to support the local activities that achieve these goals.
There are 3 different levels of memebership for presenting organizations:
Full MembershipMembership is free, and is open to all BC Presenting organizations outside of the Lower Mainland. Approximate annual value to your organization: $8500
Professional Development:
- MiBC is committed to assisting its member presenters develop as effective curators for their communities. This includes:
- Travel and accommodation assistance for one manager and one arts outreach coordinator form each member organization to attend our annual professional development conference “Breaking New Ground.” Often timed to coincide with a major performance festival, such as the bi-annual Dance in Vancouver, MiBC facilitates workshops and arranges for performance attendance, and provides exposure to experts in a wide cross section of the issues surrounding performing arts presentation and outreach in BC.
- Travel and accommodation assistance for one manager from each member organization to attend the Made in BC Pitch Session: Usually timed to coincide with the BC Touring Council’s Pacific Contact, the Made in BC Pitch session allows presenters to personally meet up to 8 dance companies, and view their presentations.
- Other occasional opportunities that arise due to our membership in a variety of national touring council bodies.
Financial Subsidies:
- Annual Dance Outreach Coordinator subsidy of $1500
- Annual Dance artist fee subsidy equalling 50% of the artist / company fee, up to a maximum of $3000
- Annual assistance of up to $500 for International Dance Day activities
Responsibilities of Membership:
- Annual review of Groundwork, B.C’s ready-to-tour contemporary dance guide (always published 2 seasons in advance)
- Hiring one arts outreach coordinator, who will provide dance outreach activities to your community
- Participation in the shortlisting process for the Made in BC pitch session
- Attendance at the Breaking New Ground professional development event
- Attendance at the Made in BC Pitch Session
- Choosing to present at least one contemporary dance performance from among those offered at the Pitch Session. Note: due to the difficulties inherent in touring very small runs, presenters must come to an agreement that allows each touring company to attain a minimum of 3 consecutive tour dates.
- Provision of an annual report, detailing contemporary dance presentation and outreach activities.
Introductory MembershipMembership is free, and is open to all BC presenting organizations outside of the Lower Mainland. Approximate annual value to your organization: $2500
- Receive copy of Groundwork, B.C’s ready-to-tour contemporary dance guide
- Intitation to participate in Breaking new Ground professional development events
- Invitation to attend the Made in BC Pitch Session
- Dance outreach worker subsidy of $1500
- Up to $500 of assistance toward travel to the Breaking New Ground professional development event
Repsonsibilities:
- Hiring one arts outreach coordinator, who will provide dance outreach activities to your community
- Provision of an annual report, detailing contemporary dance presentation and outreach activities
- Must work towards presenting at least one additional contemporary dance performance in the following season
Associate MembershipMembership is free, and is open to all Canadian presenting organizations. Approximate annual value to your organization: $500
- Receive copy of Groundwork, B.C’s ready-to-tour contemporary dance guide
- Invitation to participate, for free, in Breaking new Ground professional development events
- Invitation to participate, for free, in the Made in BC Pitch Session
Responsibilities: - Provide feedback annually on how / whether membership has positively impacted your organization
- Provide minimal statistical data on your organization's contemporary dance performance / outreach activities in the year.
2011/12 marks the first year of our Associate Membership program. It is meant to widen the reach of our work and to act as a useful resource for the presenting community. This program will continue to develop based on member feedback. |
