Vancouver, BC Made in BC’s (MIBC) Board of Directors announce the appointment of Jane D. Gabriels. Ph.D. as MIBC’s new, permanent Executive Director, effective Jan. 2, 2018. Jane, a dedicated and proven leader who has served non-profit arts organizations for nearly 20 years joins MIBC following the company’s six-month search. Dr. Gabriels will lead the Company to a new chapter of continued strength, commitment, and stability.

“The MiBC Board of Directors held a thorough search across the country and interviewed closely a number of excellent candidates. Jane stood out as an exceptional applicant with her extensive experience producing, curating and facilitating contemporary dance, and her consistent ability to raise funds for these projects. One of Jane’s skills is her ability to bring people together and facilitate relationships that build community in the support of artists, presenters, and audiences.” – Edmond Kilpatrick, Board Chair of MiBC

As Executive and Artistic Director of Pepatián, Jane has a proven record of accomplishments in creating and supporting projects that inspire and inform networks of dance artists and presenters. Her fundraising experience has coalesced a strong mix of government, foundation, corporate and individual sponsors. Having produced a number of significant projects in New York City and in Montréal, she successfully initiated Configurations in Montréal: performance curation and communities of colour, funded by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council / SSHRC-CRSH, which included the participation of a range of university and non-profit partners. This gathering of artists, curators, scholars and presenters from across Canada and the U.S. served to build cross-border bridges with opportunities to share current knowledge about contemporary dance and performance. She also served on the boards of: Tangente, Studio 303 and with CICA-ICAC, International Community of Performing Arts Curators, an organization which she co-founded. Jane brings robust experience in fundraising and negotiation, as well as strong roots and key relationships in the arts sector across the country.

“The Board takes great pleasure in announcing Jane’s appointment,” said Edmond Kilpatrick, Chair of the Board of MIBC. “We are confident that Dr. Gabriels will be an excellent ambassador who will bring clear and engaged leadership to the position with her strong fundraising and financial acumen coupled with creative, strategic, and consistent management. Jane has a profound respect for the artists, curators and presenters of contemporary dance in BC, valuing excellence, artistic expression, and integrity in connecting dance to our communities.”
