Excerpts – Ballet Victoria

Ballet Victoria

Ballet Victoria offers mixed contemporary programs as well as full-length Ballet each season with four Main Stage productions. We tour in Canada and the USA. Some productions include local dancers (students, for example our Nutcracker or Cinderella). We can customize repertoire according to the venue and the interest of the presenters and its community.

All works are new or created on Ballet Victoria in the last 10 years and are rooted in classical technique with a strong contemporary influence.

All works can tour. Ballet Victoria  is very efficient at touring and would love to expand its touring activity.

Season 2018 – 2019:

Frankenstein (October/November) – Full length (a dramatic gothic comedy and an homage to the original ballet zombies, the “Wilies” from Giselle’s second act.

The Nutcracker (November/December) – Full Length two act ballet: an original take on this holiday classic with contemporary relevance, magic, humour and stellar dancing. Uses local dancers on tour.

Rite of Spring and mixed works (February/March/April)– A visceral work to Stravinsky’s score where the traditional patriarchal stereotypes are rejected to find balance and harmony. New Canadian choreographer works.

Carmina Burana (February/March/April) – Full length work driven by Carl Orff’s master piece and inspired by its songs. Can be performed with local choir and musicians (piano/percussion version) on tour.

Season 2019 – 2020:

Carmen and J. Brel Songs (October/November) – Bizet’s powerful score and a timeless tale in a one act ballet of unbridled passion. Jacques Brel’s most famous songs take shape through dramatic and deeply moving choreography.

Romeo & Juliet (February/March/April) – A full length two act ballet with intense power, love, fierce dancing and sword play.

The Little Prince – A new full length ballet inspired by Saint Exupery’s brilliant book.

Ballet Victoria is a boutique professional ballet company with four yearly productions that can adapt to various size stages. With minimal sets in favour of projections for both narrative full-length ballets and mixed programs we truly focus on dance. Our performances are not only dramatic and technically demanding but often include humour and are very accessible to audiences that may not be familiar with ballet. The shows are entertaining as well as relevant to today’s audiences and satisfy both the ballet neophytes and aficionados. Our productions are imaginative and often surprise audiences choreographically and dramatically.

Choreographer: Paul Destrooper

Ballet Victoria works with various Canadian choreographers. Our lighting and costume design are done by our local team which makes the company highly adaptable to venues. We also collaborate with musicians from solo artist to small ensemble and full orchestra as well as choirs.

Ballet Victoria can offer, master classes, school performances, workshops from K to 12 and adults.
