The 605 Collective
Golden BC Community Residency
Tuesday Oct 22nd, 2013
11-2pm – Photography Collaboration
The artists collaborated with local photographers and filmmakers (both amateur and professional) to recreate examples of the photography and film elements found in New Animal (the lemon fights), but with local Golden residents both behind and in front of the camera. All ages and walks of life were encouraged to attend.
5:30-7pm – 605 Collective Movement Workshop
Led by 605’s co-directors and dancers, this workshop focused simply on teaching 605’s basic movement vocabulary, and in particular, movement concepts found in New Animal. Participants were led led through a simple warm-up, technique-building exercises, and taught brief phrases of choreography using both upright and floor-bound animalistic movement.
7pm-7:30pm – Artist Talk / Q+A
For those who were able to stay longer, the workshop was followed by a chance to meet the artists and learn more about the company and its work.

10-1pm - Dance Film / Photography Collaboration
The artists took local photographer/film artist collaborators outdoors into Golden’s landscape and forests to direct and shoot a series of simple photos and short videos that framed the dancers as wildlife caught in their natural habitat. 605 Collective invited other local dancers/actors/physical people of all sorts to join them, posing or moving in animalistic ways against the wilderness backdrop.
5:30-8:30pm – 605 Collective Creation Workshop
For those participants who were more curious in the creative process behind dance making, this workshop focused on how to approach simple methods for composing movement phrases and devising their own choreography. Based upon tools used in New Animal’s creation, participants were guided through a personalized choreographic process that allowed each individual to make their own creative choices within a loose task-based structure, building their own material for their own bodies, and essentially choreographing their own short dance work. 605’s artists helped individuals collaborate and seam together their ideas so their solos could become duets and/or small group pieces.
